The builder diaries

I’ve fired every builder but one who has worked on my house. Or they’ve fired me.

Today, the electrician fired me. He was our second electrician. The first couldn’t be bothered to show up for five months, so we fired him. The second, Mati was his name (call me for his last name, if you happen to be interviewing electricians), called to say he wouldn’t be coming around anymore, that he’d never really wanted to do the work in the first place.

The price of panic: 20,000 EUR

People, who reacted to the rumours last weekend of the Estonian kroon’s devaluation, bought over two million EUR through retail exchange outlets.  Most of the transactions occurred in predominately Russian-speaking neighbourhoods.

All told, over 40 million kroons were needlessly exchanged for
Euros and other currencies before people regained the senses. Baltlantis asked its resident financial mind Arjan Arends for his insight into the real cost of the EEK/Euro debacle.
